Hayden Park

Well we just finished with a happy fun filled park ministry. Once a month we help with a local church outreach to migrant workers waiting in Hayden Park for some work to come their way. On any given day there are 30 to 50 and often more Hispanic men standing around hoping for work .They come from Honduras,  Guatemala, Mexico and everywhere in between.  For the most part they are a good-natured group with only a few exceptions.   Mrs. Park has been doing this for almost 8 years. We have been helping  her for about 1/2 that time.  We have seen Spanish preachers and singers come and go by the dozen, yet Mrs. Park or “Happy “ as she is affectionately called, is always there with  her little band of 1/2 dozen or more helpers! She is quite a testimony to us all as to how effective just showing up time after time can be. Seeing she doesn’t speak Spanish except,” Dios esta aqui!”

Today was almost a comedy of events as we hurried on over to the park to do our part. Hopefully there will be a preacher or some singers or someone who can speak Spanish, but you never know what you will find!  Mrs. Park said “well, I invited one who said he would come, but you never know.” Well guess who was the preacher, singer and prayer today? You guessed it… Yours truly along with my dear wife who speaks more French than Spanish!

So here we are with our little guitar and amplifier with an old CD player trying to plug into the inverter of the 12 volt system that is only partially working. Then just as we get the kinks out of the electric problem, the CD player decides to die on us.  Yep, those Duracell, long life batteries went flat.  And at such a time…so,I decide to just go ahead and tune my guitar and forget the electronics.  So I pull out my battery little tuner to tune up and lo and behold, the tuner is broken and for the first time won’t respond.  Adria had departed to purchase some batteries for the CD player at a store across the street, as the crowd was now gathering wondering if anything we brought would work?

Adria returns with the batteries and now the CD player decides to start skipping !!!

And to top at all off it decides to start sprinkling. ”That wasn’t in the forecast “Happy says .Well a lot was not in the forecast that we are experiencing was it! Ha!

So Adria goes to get an umbrella, and guess what?  It works! So off we go singing in the rain for Jesus.

We quoted Psalm 23 together in Spanish and took off singing, preaching and praying as best we could.

I had my Spanish New Testament (the one that survived the burning of our camper van in 1988. See story in ”Daddy, the van is burning”. So we read from John 3 about “ye must be born again”  I don’t know how but the whole crowd raised their hands and hearts to heaven at the end.  Just as we begin to pray in our very broken Spanish, a young man from the crowd steps forward and says “I can help.”  Where have you been all morning?

I think we have made some real friends today as we stumbled through our presentation. ”Triumph is 10% try and 90% UMPH”  Seems God doesn’t use the qualified, but can qualify whom He chooses.

Many times God will use you, not because of your great ability, but just because you are there and others aren’t . So showing up is half the victory!  Thank You Lord You have chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and the weak, base, despised and are nots to do your work (1 Cor 1: 27)

Sunday!

Miracle helped Mom at church today as she has 8 Kindergarten and 1st grade students plus her usual elementary clan.  Stephen visited Lakewood Church today and then to Ye Darm.
Tonight we pick up donated bagels and bread to distribute tomorrow.  Thank you Lord for a busy fulfilling week.

Morning Devotions at the Lock In

9/13/2014

Morning devotions at the lock in were really great, Proverbs 13:20 being the theme!  Stephen even got an impromptu song highlighting the truth of that verse.

He that walks with Wise men shall be wise
But a companion of fools shall be destroyed

So...choose your friends wisely, don't let them choose you
Choose your friends wisely for you'll do as they do...

Be a wise man and not a fool

Choose your friends wisely...choose them one by one
Choose your friends wisely...even if you've none.
Better none than the wrong one you will find
Don't follow vain men (but) let the blind lead the blind

He that trusts in his own heart is a fool
No matter how old, no matter how cool
Put your trust in Jesus, true friend to the end
Walk with this wise man and become like Him

As for me and my house we will serve God. (the Lord)
Let others leave the road for a miry path
I'll stick to the Truth no matter how odd.

Miss Adria told the story of Jake who was a fine young man as a pre-teen, but as he chose the wrong companions later in life he went far astray from his upbringing--doing things he thought he could do and it would not hurt him.  His tragic end is a sobering lesson for us all.

Youth "Lock In"

9/12/2014

Adria and I taught on the "Apple and the Worms.
What's worse than biting a juicy apple and finding a worm inside? --hmm? Well, finding only 1/2 a worm perhaps!  What are some of the worms in our life that may try to eat our lunch?

ENVY, SELFISHNESS, DECEIT, ANGER, HATRED....all these are worms seeking to sour our spirit.  Be aware and learn to resist and overcome these through the Power of God and His Word.

Nursing Home Ministry with Peniel Korean Choir and Dance.  What a joy to see the faces of all the grey-haired people light up as we sing together Korean and English Hymns.  All the old timers know Psalm 23 in the good ol' KJV and say it with us!  a beautiful illustrated version by Helen Haidle we taught on Psalm 23--Why sheep need a shepherd and also the difference between goats and sheep.  Sheep go BAA!  Goats go BUT...

School Chapel

9/10/2014

Our first Chapel at CCA for elementary kids.  Adria and Mr Steve set up the puppets and power point to do the famous program "Hide the Word--where?  How?"  It was quite entertaining and instructional.  Kids were all challenged to earn Badge No 1.  They really enjoy the lively Hillsong for Kids videos and we all jump up and down together--even the grandparents!  Ha!

Cornerstone

9/9/2014

We had our 3rd week of Cornerstone with 6  3-4th Grade boys who were blessed with the teaching of Ms Adria on "Who Created the World and Everyone has Value."

There is the plant kingdom, the animal kingdom and people.  The Human race was created in the image of God and has value and significance--even those some may not think so!  Nick Vujicic is a wonderful testimony to this!   www.lifewithoutlimbs.org

"All Things Work Together for Good...."  Romans 8:28

9/5/2014

Somehow the home page of the website got deleted on Wednesday!  We don't know how that happened, but it caused us to have to work on the website and update it and give it a new look!  If you miss the old one you can go to www.heartclub.org and see it!  We haven't had a chance to update that site yet!

While we were working on this website we were able to put up some current photos from Haiti and move the Badge One workbook to the home page.  People were asking about the workbook and couldn't find it on our website.  So now it is on the home page!

It is so inspiring that the interns at the Children's Activity Center are memorizing and earning badges!

Completed the "Let Your Light Shine" songbook

9/4/2014

Today we worked on finalizing the "Let Your Light Shine" songbook.  This songbook has 29 scripture and scriptural songs!  It has an accompanying CD.  This is a compilation of recordings we made a few years ago in Jacksonville, Florida at Wiley Tomlinson's church, New Covenant Fellowship.

"Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised"  Ps 48:1

9/3/2014

Up early to take Miracle to school and then Stephen and I were off to the Subway to meet Miss Park and one of her friends for breakfast.  Over breakfast, Angela, her friend shared about their ministry to the refugees from Bhutan here in Houston.   There are many refugees here struggling not knowing English and with very little finances.  They are starting a new ministry to help these people and children and she is very interested in getting some of the bread and frozen food we pick up.   We are glad to add them to our "bread route."
Then we were blessed to have lunch with Duc and Mercy who will be going to Viet Nam for 3 weeks this Sunday.  His grandmother's health is failing and they feel led to go and visit her.  We are praying for their trip.  Duc is also collecting donations to help purchase some rice for an orphanage in his hometown.
We are praying about how to get the patches to Haiti!  We were not able to get them to the missionary pilot  before he left.   We got an email today that some more of them have been shipped.  We now have 9 patches made!  Just three more to go.  Believing for the rest of the funds to complete the Patch project.
